Temper Question

Some where I read something about quenching to cool at the end of the temper soak. Could any one elaborate on this and if it is true what steels respond to this method?

You mean if you temper at say 400 F you then quench in oil ? It won't do a thing !!
 
Thats what I thought, I think it was refering to steels that temper at about 1,000 deg, I think it was something that Clif Stamp posted. Seems to me it would put unwanted stress in the metal.
