So, Sal, what are the reasons behind the two blade shapes? Which is suited to what? The rhino horn blade got me curious. I've always liked the shrade sharpfinger in reverse grip, since the point lies along the arc of your fist in a hammerfist motion, thrusting can be targeted pretty intuitively. I know, however that most people don't like the upswept tip for anything but skinning. Can you give us insight into the design? Also when are the full size and fixed blade models due?

Since these are in the MBC line we can assume that they are geared on different angles of defense. The rhino blade looks like it would be better served for trappit and back cuts. The calypso blade looks stronger just due to the fact that it's more steel. I dunno... I'm just guessing here... but that trapping thing makes sense :)

anybody has the specs on these?

I mean:

1) Length of blade for both models (not merely blade edge)
2) Length of handle for both models (length closed)

Thanks!

Here's a quick repost on the subject:

Some of us will recall the original prototypes for a "Martial Bladecraft folder" from a few years ago: 3.5" upswept 440V blade (first hollow-ground, then flat-ground), nested rolling lock, 14mm hole:

Obviously this appears to have perished when the deal to licence the rolling lock fell through. The Temperance folders are the in-house successor to the original concept MBCF, but now with a Jr. model (3" blade) and a large model (3.75" blade)

The Temperance folders coming out now, are the Jr. versions, with 4mm thick 3" blades, 14mm hole, MBC-rated compression lock, dual steel liners, and individually hand-molded olive-drab G10 scales. Weight is 4.44 oz (126g).

"We plan to begin shipping in June of this year. only 200 pcs per month are scheduled. 75 trailing point blade (rhino horn), 75 Leaf shape blade (spear point?), 25 trainers for each. Very limited production. It's not a knife everyone would care for.

They'll be expensive. MSRP in the $200 range."

If the Jr. model is successful in limited production, then Spyderco will add the large version and the Temperance fixed blade.
