Thanks to a tip from a kind Forumite, I picked up Temperance #027 today. In a word, it's AWESOME! I am usually leery of knives with even a suggestion of finger grooves, but the Temperance feels perfect in both sabre and reverse grip. It's Spyderco sharp, as expected, and the Compression Lock is awesome, although it is going to take me a while to undo a decade's worth of liner-lock muscle memory. :)

The green G-10? Well, it's exactly the color of a Christmas tree stand, but I think it goes with the overall look of the knife, and I will probably learn to love it. In fact I'm getting used to it already. :D

OK here's a scan, along with my well-used, well-loved geriatric Police model for size comparison. :)

I will say truthfully that from the start I HATED the clip. It is built exactly like an old-fashioned sled, in which the "runners" actually engage the fabric when the knife is clipped on. It's hard to clip the knife on, and the clip is REALLY tight. However, I am starting to appreciate it. It is REALLY secure, it is completely flat when secured, so it cannot easily snag on anything, and it draws fairly smoothly......

I do have one question. Notice in the scan below that it looks like the blade is ground unevenly. However, the more I look at it, the more I think that maybe this is intentional, in order to provide clearance for the Compression Lock. There is a also a groove (looks like a black line to the right of the blade tang) that I think might also serve this purpose.

If anyone wants to see a closeup of the clip let me know. It has a very stylized logo that I only just realized says "Sal." :) Is this the first use of this logo? Thanks.

Thanks for the pics! I can't wait to get one of these. If you find the time, could you post a pic of the clip side? This is the first knife that I've been excited about in quite some time. From the pics I've seen, the excitement is justified.

does anyone know where to find either the Temperance or Temp. Jr. online? I cant seem to find anything. Thanks in advance

Nitin

Recluse, Very Good Pics. I am jealous and would also like to see the clip side.

Nitin, As far as I know Spyderco has not yet announced plans to produce the Temperance although I have heard of fixed blade Temperance prototypes. As I understand it, the Temperance Jr. is somewhat of an experiment to test the market and the designs(two blade styles). I think that the only people who currently have them belong to the Spyderco Collector Club. The rest of us mere mortals will probably have to wait another month or two we will be able to get one.:) It is a high end low production knife that will probably hit the market slower than some of the other new designs. Personally I think the Calypso style blade will become my regular carry.

Hi Nitin,

This knife is limited to a production of 200 per month, so since the first 200 go to the Collectors Club, we probably won't see any of these available at dealers until October or even November.
