I just got Spyderco Temperance Trainer. Carlos took some great pics but they still don't do justice to the zytel grip, particularly the rounded pommel.

My rather medium sized hands prefer a hammer grip on this handle over saber or the Filipino grip. I've switched to using a hammer grip as I've used trainers on a dummy and the hump just kept hitting my thumb on stabs.

The blade is very much the Calypso on steroids, the trainer blade is also VG-10 and both the tip and spine are mirror polished. Not sure if the VG-10 matters much as this is a trainer. There is a bit more care regarding rounded edges and finish vs. the Delica trainer blade.

Each of my finger tips presses into the four dimples, which are deeper
than the Gunting trainer and both spoil you because they allow easier grip swtiches. The rounded pommel is indented to help with capping of the thumb in reverse grip and the handle is okay in both an edge out and in grips and with gloves. The texture of the handle isn't particularly aggressive or slick.

The sheath is a rather thin kydex with a Tek lok and an open lipped mouth. The sheath is a bit rough at the drainage holes but my biggest problem is the area near the spine of the blade. The actual sheath does not cover the spin and could accumulate a bit of mud or such.

On a standard draw, you pull up on the handle, push down on the sheath this same area with the thumb. The open area can pinch your
thumb on the draw and at times it snagged on my shirt. The sheath isn't secure enough for my taste but as it's a trainer, that's no real problem.

I do like the comfortable handle and overall appearance of the knife, the blade is much broader than expected. It does have a kitchen knife appearance and doesn't seem too threatening. I admit this is a bit of an investment piece and there are cheaper FB trainers however, few have a sheath system.

Kublai, I ran into a collector who didn't want it. Newgraham.com and Knifecenter have them.

I've played around with it a bit more, the pommel pokes me in the ribs a little and the dimples touching my palm irritate after a bit.
But I still like it. :p

Knifecenter is wrong and sent them a correction
The Trainer steel is AUS-6 and not VG-10 - it will be a hugh waste of money to build a trainer with anything more than AUS-6
