Is there a 4in Temperance scheduled to be made? For those of you that have a Lil' Temperance how do you like it? What blade style to you recommend? Thanks. -Lev

Lev-

I really looked forward to this one for a long time, but when I got it (a leaf blade), I disliked it intensely. I traded it for a Massad Ayoob and have never regretted my decision (the Ayoob is AMAZING).

I actually agree with just about everything that TOTC said in the (thorough and excellent) referenced review. However, perhaps as a consequence of that great grip, I found the knife completely uncarryable. It was an awkward lump when clipped to a vertical pocket (like on Dockers) and stuck out prominently in a horizontal pocket (jeans), at which point the green of the handle telegraphs that there is something "odd" in your pocket. Even IWB was uncomfortable, because the guard portion presses against the abdomen.

I agree as well that the clip is WAY too tight. Also, in a strange deviation from the elegance and comfort of the usual Spyderco clip, this one is blocky, a little on the sharp side, and was hell on pockets for the brief time I owned it.

In case it needs to be said, I mean no disrespect to Mr. Glesser with this post. Spyderco is by far my favorite production brand since the late 80's (when I got my first "real" knife-a Police model) and I don't see that changing any time soon. :) This particular piece just doesn't trip my trigger........

I personally love the trailing point (rhino) and carry it everyday. I guess one reason I like it so much, is the fact that I waited so long to get the darn thing!

The pocket clip is my personal favorite. Again, because it is so different and I waited so long for it to be mine. Recluse is right, though, it is a chunk of a handle, and if you were to carry it "tip down" it is an eye sore. The green horns on the guard would look very suspicious, not so much as a Gunting, but still odd.

I love the wide, flat ground blades. They really cut like there's no tomorrow. And the rhino blade does disappear into the handle when closed. In fact, I don't know that I would want a four inch model. I think it defeats the purpose of a small Martial Blade Craft design, and a bigger handle wouldn't translate well on a 4 inch version. Think of it as a piece of putty that you have squeezed tightly in your hand, and there you have the Lil' Temperance handle. It just wouldn't be the same scaled up.

It's a real winner in my book.

The Lil' Temperance has been my EDC for the last few months. I agree that the Lil' Temperance is thick and wide, folded or open, for a 3" folder. If that's what your looking for you will really appreciate this design. It is definately not the clipless pocket friendly gentleman's 3" folder. I find it rides well w/ out the clip ,vertically, in the small pocket that is inside the front right hand pocket in some styles of Dockers (if that makes any sense). When I'm running out and the clips off, it also rides well in the watch pocket on a pair of Levis. Then again, you always know it's there. Depending on your point of view, this could be good or this could be bad.

I just rec'ed a trailing point model to share duty w/ my leaf model. I haven't used the trailing point model enough yet to form an opinion. Both blades have a flat grind and are Spyderco sharp so you can't go wrong there. The leaf shaped blade seems better suited for my utility needs at the moment. I haven't become used to the trailing point profile yet so that may change.

All in all, I highly recommend the Lil' Temperance if it fits your needs. It's highest compliment of all: It has cut down on my knife buying/trading habit.

Here is my original opinion www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=183096&highlight=temperance

Let us know what you think if you pick one up.

I've been trying to get a leaf blade, C69GP for the past few weeks. No one has them in stock. I've called and emailed every dealer and there cousin - no luck. Where the hell can I get one?

The only leaf blades I've seen so far have been serial #ed. They are probably spread pretty thin. I'm sure one will pop up on the forums now and then. I've seen un#ed trailing points so I imagine un#ed leaf blades will have a production run soon. I was looking for an un#ed leaf blade when I finally settled on the trailing point.

Could one of you fine gentleman show us a pic of the Lil Temperance from the top of the handle looking down into the knife? Also a pic of the knife in your hand (saber grip) would be great! :D

Does the LT have a ball detent or is the blade only held closed by the pivots tightness?

Thanks guys! :):)

Here are the pictures. Sorry they aren't better. By the way, there isn't a ball detent on the Compression Lock. But it works just like a ball detent on a liner lock, and it does hold the blade firmly.

No need for apology Sal. I understand it is a new model and difficult to manufacture. Just letting out some knife collector angst.:)
