I am getting ready to build a HT oven.

There are two option for controlling temperature:
1. a digital controller like this from eBay for about $80
http://www.mod-tronic.com/Love/pdf/32A_data_sheet.pdf
plus thermocouple and SSR relay
2. a software based themperature controller for $150. http://www.embeddedrf.com/Refractory_Oven_Products/PID_Form/e5ax/temp_controller_and_pc_software.htm

Second option requires computer to run but is easier to setup
temperature than programming standalone temperature controller.

What do you think what would be better?

Thanks,
Alex

So this basically just tells you what the temp is inside your forge, or does it control the temp?

Does it have to be an electric forge?

Well, the link to the software is just software.
You still need a controller to program with the software, such as the Love Controls in link 1(with option 992 for serial control).
I think if you get a controller with the serial port option, it should include software to control it.

On eBay they sell this kit(software plus controller)for for $125
look for item 7562471549(thermocouple is extra $20)

Oh, cool! Thanks! I've got an old analog Paragon I wouldn't mind converting. :)
