Tempered Glass Platen

Hi: Just had a tempered glass plated literally explode while grinding. Didn't hurt anything or anyone but what a feeling . Any ideas why this would have happened? I am having a 0-1 platen heat-treated by Rob Simonich right now, so I guess the glass was shortlived anyway. Just thought I would warn everyone about how it just disintegrated.

It's the thought of something like that happening that steered me away from trying one. Glass is not something that I want coming at me at warp speed. Alot of makers use them and yours is the first post I've seen about one failing so they must be somewhat safe, not sure why yours didn't work though. Sorry, not much help here.
