The Temperence is a compression lock that is intended for the sort of abuse a knife might get in a "martial bladecraft" sort of emergency. I'm trying to decide whether it's ugly or kind of cute. The prototype blades come in two flavors:

The Duck -

The Puffin -

The clip has a hole in it opposite the dimple on the other side, for quick grip changes.

Now, in the great knife nut Internet tradition of begging for improvements of new knives that haven't even gone into production yet, I want to see ...

A megafolder version of this thing, with a 5" or 6" blade, and G10 handles in some bright primary color, and we'll call it the Intemperence.

How big is this thing?
Why is it contoured on one side, and not the other?

Cool look. I especially like the "Puffin."

Actually, these prototypes are the "Temperence Jr." - blade a bit under 3" like a Delica or a Calypso Jr. The handle is "built for gripping" by a right-handed person. As I recall, none of the new "MBC" models are ambidextrous, and mirror-image lefty knives have proven difficult for knife manufacturers to sell in profitable quantities.

Maybe with a lot more "missionary work," when a majority of men and women know how to release a lockback and know what a thumb hole or thumb stud is for, there will be enough volume to support mirror image SKUs' in all the models and variations.

I really like the elevation-sculpted handle, looks like it will guide your hand and fingers into the exact grip for this particular handle.

For the purpose of MBC (of which I'm just a student, not an expert) I prefer the clip point 'duck' over the drop point. In reverse grip, it will probably trap limbs better with a hooked/curved point. The blade looks like it's in the 3-3.5" length range? Hopefully, it'll be at least 3.5" in the end.

Love the name 'Temperence', nice pocket clip, love the wide flatground blade, overall shape is on-target (the clip point anyway). I prefer black for the handles, but if color must be introduced, please keep it a rich dark color.

Great job on this one Spyderco!

Guess you answered my size question before I was done. Glad to know that these are the junior version.

Thanks James,
