Tempering a completed knife

Is it possible to temper a blade if the knife handle is already on it? I like my first (sort of) knife. I think the blade needs to be tempered more, though. Can I immerse the handle/guard in something, or cover it with an insulator of some sort, to allow it to be placed in a heat treat oven?

Or should I just make another knife?

Mike what steel is it?
you may get by with putting the handle in water with some
o-1 and the like.
Or just keep it as a shop knife and make a new one.
