I am making a 420 stainless chefs knife, I am having it professionally heat treated but I need to temper it my self! I know you can do it with a regular oven, but I don't the temp, or how long!! Does anybody know? Thanks!

Where are you having it heat treated? Most ( if not all ) professional HT'ing places that I know of perform the tempering process as part of the HT.

I believe you don't understand that tempering is a part of heat treating. The process is done as one continuous step....not separate things. In stainless steel, the quench does not even finish until -100°F, and then it goes immediately into the tempering oven. This is why stainless is normally "professionally" heat treated.

Walker heat treating in Cleveland, I will assume that they have then! This is my first time sending something to a professional heat treat!
