tempering temp(s) for cable damascus

I guess it would depend on the material the cable is made of. The cable I use is basically 1095. I just heat to nonmagnetic (coal forge) then quench in oil. No soak time.

On the temper I've had it vary from 350 to 400, just keep raising temper heat 25 de. untill edge quits chipping out.

Sorry 'bout dat! I only left my instructions for hardening the blade.

Will left some good advice. 2 hrs at 350, turn off the oven and let cool. Check the edge with a brass rod. Adjust the tempering temperature if the edge chips, and re-temper. Repeat if needed.

I triple temper my cable at 350F.

The stuff that I use is more than likely 1065. It is listed as plow steel.
