So were moving into our first home next week. Unfortunately the workshop won't be completed for at least another year (hooray for building permits being backed up) and there is no way I'm waiting that long to unbox the new Reeder grinder I picked up! I'd like to keep the garage safe from fire/fairly clean, while avoiding putting in anything too permanent since I'll be ripping it all out in a year. With help from Stacy E. Apelt - Bladesmith Stacy E. Apelt - Bladesmith , I came up with this and am hoping it will work out well. What do you think? Anything I forgot? Any tools missing from the setup that I absolutely must have? I'll be using a 3M Breathe Easy PAPR respirator and Versaflo M-207 Faceshield for protection, and also have a Grizzly 1000+ CFM hanging air filter.

More or less to scale.

I'll be using this basic spark bong design "borrowed" from Alpha Knife Supply Alpha Knife Supply . Thanks Chuck!

I work in a small basement room, and am also worried about fire risk. A year or so ago I made a spark bong like yours. The bong feeds into a dust deputy (with water on the bottom), and thus into a shop vac. I do not throttle the airflow. The spark bong captures essentially everything. Just a very very little ends up in the dust deputy, and the shop vac (which has a hepa filter) is clean. I have more of an issue with small amounts of wood dust escaping the grinder (which ihave draped off and ventilated) than I have sparks causing problems.

Even then, I always keep a fire extinguisher handy, and weekly check pressure and shake it up.

So … your set up should work fine.
