Okay, not really. He showed up and the neighbors tried to get him taken to our little town kennel where he would have been locked up alone for at least the weekend... probably longer.

I told the police we'd keep him here and take care of him while searching for his home. I have put up signs (with these pics) all over town, took him to the vet to be scanned for a microchip or see if they recognized him (no go on both accounts) put ads on Craigslist, ads in our local papers, an announcement for a local radio show, and have been taking him on 3 to 4, 4-5 mile walks a day in all directions from the house in order to a.) burn off some of his piles of energy, and b.) hopefully be seen by someone who knows him.

I would love to keep him... he is an absolutely beautiful Husky, he's a great dog, and he has really taken to me. BUT!!!!! I know someone has to be missing him something terrible. If they aren't... well, they suck.

I know that if I had a dog missing, I would hope that someone would go to the lengths I have, to try and help get us reunited. :)

BTW- He looks like he's about 75 pounds, but he's only 60... but is a damn strong 60.

Sweeeet!!!! But he will be shedding like a polar beer. My Keeshond is a Arctic Circle Breed and I have hair everywhere. HEHEHEHEHE!!! It is well worth it

Ive only owned Pit Bulls for my entire life, but man..... thats a good looking dog, especially suited for that cold weather up your way. Im shocked no one has claimed him, as he looks obviously well taken care of. Be sure to keep us posted on his status.

Great looking dog, Nick!

I found a Pit-bull a couple of years ago just roaming my neighborhood - no one ever claimed him - I assumed someone just let him go because of the economy (foreclosure). Ended up giving him to my son-in-law - they're GREAT dogs by the way. I've found a Husky and a couple of mutts, as well, I guess I'm a dog magnet.

You're doing everything you can to find his family but if that doesn't happen - give him love and a good home - you won't regret it. (plus they're easier than children - no less expensive - just easier!)

The Rhodesian Ridgeback in my avatar was found on Craig's List - 3 yrs. old and free to a good home - times be tight!

Good luck!!!

Handsome dog cute enough that the girls will love him and big enough that if he is chasing you, you will run.

that is a beautiful dog , if no one claims him , keep him .

I hope that is not a choker collar , I've seen animals hang themselves with those collars .

Thanks for the words of encouragement guys! :)

Jack, it's just a chain attached to his collar. He has a heavy nylon collar that he was wearing when he showed up. I wish I had a harness, I could let him pull my car and save on gas!!! ;) :D

I'm hoping that maybe his family is on vacation and just hasn't realized he's missing yet...but will soon. It did cross my mind that somebody just couldn't afford him anymore like Michael mentioned, and dumped him around here. :(

Don't you have a lot of farms around you ? The dog looks well cared for to just have been dumped .

Good man, Nick. And a great looking dog. I picked up a pup who was walking down one of our busiest streets. He was scared half to death and so tired he could hardly stay awake. I took him home and tried to find the owner. I was able to get some info on him from a tag he was wearing. It turns out his original owner was an old lady who had passed away. He was taken to a no-kill shelter and then fostered until he was adopted about a month before we found him. Whoever adopted him was no longer anywhere to be found (non-working numbers, not at their old address, etc.) Unfortunately, it looked like they moved and just let him free in the city . So we ended up keeping him, and he's a great dog.

We think he's part Italian greyhound and part yellow lab. Not that big either really (32 pounds and a HECK of an athlete).

He's the middle one in this pic:

Rescues make awesome pets. Hope you find his owner and hope you don't all at the same time.

Hey Nick.
Huskies tend to be very friendly, intelligent,
and animated. They love to roam and make new friends.
We have our second...a Siberian female.
The best to you...and him.

I'm definitely a dog person. Love the husky. Very pretty.

My dog is also a rescue dog. When we lived in Texas he followed my wife home. At the time he had no collar, no tags, and was getting VERY thin and losing fur. It was obvious he'd been away from home for quite some time.

We took him in and he's been a very sweet dog ever since. Now he's getting old and creaky, but no less sweet.

Good on ya, Nick, for helping him out.

Hi Nick,I have had 3 huskies and they are sweet dogs, but very hard headed and independent,DO NOT let him off leash, that's probably what happened.Let loose and they will run and follow their nose where ever it leads them.He is a very good looking nicely colored dog and will seriously grow on you the longer you have him:)Regards Butch

PS: he looks kind of like a Malamute----

Well, looks like he won't be able to stay. No owner yet, but he just doesn't get along with the animals that are already here. I had no idea that huskies are predatory, but he sure is. I looked into it and I guess it's pretty natural for them to be that way with small animals.

Oh well.... it was fun for awhile. Still hoping his owner shows up. I know he'd have zero problem getting adopted from the shelter, but I'd sure rather see him go HOME so I'll hold off on the shelter thing as long as I can...but he is flat out vicious towards the other animals here (hard to believe with such a sweet face!!!) and I just can't have that.

I'm not big into having a dog tied up 24/7 either, and just like Butch mentioned, I guess that's the deal with these dogs. Tie them up or they're gone. I'm sure that's why he's here in the first place.

I've been taking as good of care of him as I know how, but unfortunately he just doesn't seem to be a good fit for THIS home. :(

I REALLY want a Newfie anyway... this whole situation might have been the push to work toward having one finally. :)

Male Huskies love to roam. Do you think he'd eventually go home if you turned him loose?

Not a good idea,he's lucky Nick found him first before he became roadkill---Nick you are right, they had rather kill a cat then eat when there' hungry--Regards Butch

I guess you're right. Cars are dogs worst enemies. Around here a loose dog could get shot as well if it's a nuisance. I don't understand the desire to keep a dog that doesn't want or know to stay home though.
If I open my doors or leave a gate open (happens from time to time) my dogs don't go anywhere.
I do know a lot of people though that are constantly trying to prevent their dogs from running out the door.
Hope you find his owner.

That's the nature of huskies, you need a fenced in yard for any dog I can't stand to see any dog tied up on a short chain-don't mean you hoopster--Regards Butch

Now that is the ultimate picture of happiness:D:thumbup:Regards Butch

i have a female pure bred husky (two blue eyes) who loves to try and get out of the fenced in 1/2 acre back yard, roam the neighborhood for a bit and come lay in front of my garage door until I get home from work.

she's under 50 Lb and can just about yank my arm off when she really starts to pull
