Tenacious clip is too tight

I bought a new tenacious for my daughter but she complaines that the clip was too tight. I had to agree, it was very hard to clip on my pants. I tried releasing the tension a bit by bending the clip out a bit. I pulled it out over 1/4" but it didn't change. I was afraid to pull it out any farther. Any suggestions?

The Tenacious' clip is quite stiff indeed, as are the metal clips on it's other Chinese-made siblings in the Spyderco line (Ambitious, Persistence, and Resilience). You get a lot of knife for the price, but there are some trade offs.

The best way I've found to tame the fierce (tenacious?) grip of the strong metal clip requires removal of the clip, a hard rubber/plastic tipped mallet, and extreme care. Once off the knife, place the clip on a straight, hard surface so the apex (top part) of the curve is facing up. Tap it with the mallet several times, gently, and replace it on the handle to test your results. If the clip is still to tight, repeat the process as many times as necessary. Patience is critical to avoid overdoing the adjustment, and ending with a clip that doesn't grip at all.

I hope this works for you, and your daughter can enjoy EDC and use of this nifty blade.

Sometimes the texturing on the G10 adds some friction when you clip the knife in your pocket, this can also prematurely damage the fabric. You could try lightly sanding the area where the clip contacts the scale with some fine sand paper. Use wet/dry paper with water, this will keep the G10 dust from getting air borne. G10 dust is nasty stuff. Better yet, before you try to sand it, put a piece of tape on the area where the clip contacts the scale. Use something like the clear packing tape that has a smooth surface. Try clipping it in your pocket. If it improves, then consider sanding it a little. Or maybe a little dab of black nail polish on the scale could work (never tried it), the G10 will have no problem with nail polish remover if it doesn't work.

I'm glad your daughter likes her knife.

The G10 in this family (if the Resilience is the same as Tenacious) is rather smooth already, so it's more likely the clip tension. As suggested, adjust it further.

Or you can swap it with retractable name tag holder like my Resilience here:
