Hey, So im debating on what knife i should get, i know for a fact that i want to get a spyderco. But, i dont have the money for a paramilitary 2 digital camo with black blade. So i have been looking at the spyderco tenacious for now. I was going to probably buy it as my first spyderco but im not sure if thats the one i want. I want to save my money for the paramilitary 2 which is why i am thinking of going with the tenacious. It seems to be a pretty good edc. What are your thoughts on the tenacious and any other knife that would be good for edc?

I say get a Tenacious right now, then save up after for a Paramilitary 2 when they start to come back into stock and you know you like everything about the Para2. Good luck man

I think id buy a native frn for around $60/$70 then save for the para. Or just buy the tenacious.
Just my 0.02.

The Tenacious is really high on my to get list at the moment. It appears to be an amazing performer! I have a Chaparral that I'm trying to decide whether to trade or sell at the moment if that interests you at all, but I doubt that's what you're looking for.

It's hard to go wrong with Spyderco. The tenacious is a great way to go!

(Mods, I hope my comment is not out of line, I think I can mention considering selling with my current membership, but if I am out of line please remove and let me know)

In some ways the Tenacious is very similar to the Para2. I think if you found a person interested in knives that didn't otherwise know anything about Spyderco and you handed them both knives, they would not understand why one would cost 3 times as much as the other.

Another Spyderco that I think is a good stand-in for the Para2 is the Manix 2.

Manix 2 is not a budget knife (for a non-knife person, at least), but remains one of my (and others) perennial favorites.

The lightweight version is definitely worth a look.

The Manix 2 is the knife I chose to buy while I wait for Para 2's to come back in stock at a reasonable price. Get a Manix 2 and a Tenacious and just enjoy them till you can get your hands on a Para 2!

Can't go wrong with a Tenacious as a first Spyderco, You will still be happy with it even after you eventually own a PM2.

My opinion, buy a Manix 2 if you can't afford the Para 2. They can be had for about $80 which is a great value for what you get.

Personally, and I mean no offense by this, but the value line to me is like a Ferrari kit car. They may have the look and style, but they'll never have the performance of the real thing. I'm not the type who settles, so If I were you I would just save up and buy what I really wanted. A year into carrying your new Para 2 or whatever, you won't miss the money spent and you'll love your knife.

Good edc, get a delica it's got great steel that gets really sharp. They also come in a variety of different colors and really light.

The two knives that got me into the whole knife scene were the tenacious and delica. I love them both.

You won't go wrong with any Spyderco knives. Buy the one you can afford now then you can move up to a higher priced Spyderco.

My route towards deciding what to EDC went like this:

I bought a Tenacious since it was about middle of the pack size wise of what I thought I'd like to carry and it was a cheap entry point.

After carrying it for a while, I decided I needed something smaller and larger, depending on the day (size of pockets, where I was going, etc).

I now rotate between a Sage 1, PM2 and Caly 3. Tenacious still gets use when I feel like doing grunt work (breaking down cardboard for example) and don't want to worry about the knife. I've also started collecting other Carbon Fiber and Glass Fiber knives. Once you get started down the path, it's hard to stop.

Para 2 here
I didn't care for my tenacious so much
I think my brother lost it :P

I havent once carried my Tenacious since I felt a para 2.

Me personally? Why waste the money, save it and buy a para 2.

(Not saying a tenacious is a waste, just saying one day he will buy it anyway)

+1....

If you want to start carrying a Spyderco right away, then get the tenacious and save up for the pm2. I paid $34 for my tenacious and have been using it for work. Amazing blade for the price...the way I do it is my pm2 and native5 are my weekend blades, the tenacious is my beater.

The Teancious was my first Spyderco and is still my favourite. In the meantime I've bought (and in several cases sold) a Military, Para2, Endura, and Pacfic Salt. I still keep coming back to the Tenacious, although I have also recently added a Delica (or two) and a ZDP Dragonfly to my EDC rotation. But the Tenacious still wins out for the best fit in my hand, most fun to flip, and the one I have no hesitation in throwing into a session of chopping down boxes etc. I say buy the Tenacious, enjoy being bitten by the bug, and save for the Para2 (which is also a great knife), and then the next, and then the next, and then.......
