hey,
does any one know how to change the position of the pocket clip on the Spyderco tenacious, and what sort of screwdriver do you need.

i believe it's a 1.5 metric hex bit, but what'll happen is that you'll probably strip one screw in the process, so go to spyderco's site and send them a message saying you already have, they'll mail you some in advance.

If I recall correctly its a small metric allen key. If you buy a set of allen keys (folds up like a pocketknife, about $7.00) it will have keys to fit both the clip screws and the blade pivot, which you will want to adjust sooner or later. To change the position of the clip, just take out the screws (there are three, I think) and reposition the clip to the side and end where you want it. Then reinsert the screws and tighten firmly with the allen key.

One of my favorite things about the Tenacious is that it's so adjustable, and that it uses such a common wrench. I'm pretty sure it's the metric allen keys, but you may want to take the knife into the hardware store with you to make sure it fits.

Good luck!

rmoore beat me to it. Good advice on getting the extra screws...it'll help if you don't overtighten the screws.

Don't beastmode the screws and you should be okay. I changed my clip's position three times and haven't had any problems.

Agreed. I've changed mine with zero issues.

Spyderco is a really great company. I don't think anyone should call them up and lie about stripped screws. If you strip them, fine, but a pre-lie?? Come on.

i can't even remember if i posted this on this forum or another, but i had my persistence about 8 months before i even though about changing the clip, and i grabbed all my bits and and found the right size one. i barely turned that thing before i already noticed slipping, i took the bit out, and it was rounded. hadn't even applied any proper pressure. i had just recently received my Tenacious in the mail, so i went and grabbed it from it's box and looked at the screws, sure enough, 1 was stripped from the factory. Spyderco obviously knows this is an issue, because when i emailed them about it, they even said it was common on the line, and said they would send me new screws. If they know it's common, I don't see any problem with him requesting some new screws for future insurance.

and you're probably right, he should just wait to see if any of them strip. and no i'm not being facetious. i just didn't care for their reply to me, when i emailed them.

I understand. Yeah, I know it's not uncommon for those tiny screws to strip out on occasion. Hopefully they can sort it out in future runs.
