Tenacious vs Persistence... for EDC

I normally prefer a sub 3" blade for EDC... But cannot for the life of me choose between the two.

Any thoughts? Tenacious vs Persistence?

Any pros or con one way or the other?

ive been carrying a tenacious everyday for about a month or so. for me its the perfect size. it's not hard to carry at all.

I use the Persistence. I carry it every day, and in every kind of clothing, casual, suits, doesn't matter.

I find it perfect, but if you like that extra bit of length to the blade, then go Tenacious, but if your tasks can all be handled by the smaller Persistence, then carry that.

yeah this may be my thinking. I wear business casual every day. Ive been carrying a delica for quite some time. Been carrying a meadowlark for the last few weeks.

I think the blade length on the Persistence may be plenty for me. Just not sure.

cool, Im wondering if, since the prices are so close, I may dig the Tenacious more.

Decisions decisions.

Have you handled both? Might be a good idea to head to a local and hold them both, see which ones suits you better. Then you can always order online to get the best price...

purely personal opinion. and handling them both would help a ton. I love the Tenacious. when I feel like carrying a smaller knife, I think in handle thickness and weight. The thing is, that the Persistence is nearly identical in both of these, so in essence it feels the same as the bigger knife in pocket, but without the more useful length of the Tenacious...

That said, I've seen plenty of people with both who prefer the smaller one, so....

Now I've moved on to bigger and better things. The Military :D

I like the tenacious. Personally, I dont see much of a need for the Persistence as much anymore because of the new Ambitious and Resilience out now. Putting the Ten and the Per between those 2 new models make them look very similar in size. But, I have big hands and the Ten. is already almost too small for my taste. As it is its just about right, any smaller and I wouldn't like it as much. I likes my Resilience though.

I don't know how to explain it but the Ten seems to small for my hands but the Per fits perfectly. I do love them both.

Respectfully, that would be grossly unfair to your local merchant.

And what will you do when that merchant is gone, driven out of business because so many people came in to handle the merchandise and get the benefit of his advice -- and then left to buy online?

If you are lucky enough to have a local brick and mortar, you might want to think twice before you use it as a free showroom.

Granted it is a little...however, some "locals" are big box stores that charge way too much so let me rephrase.

If your local is a big box type store, then either ask them to price match or buy it elsewhere, perhaps online.

If your local is a real local, a mom and pop type establishment, then try to give them your business. Often they will be more than happy to be a little bit flexible with prices to encourage you to go back and shop more. And you should do so.

I am lucky cause my local is a great one off place that has, as far as I can tell, the best prices around. And I take friends there and go back as often as I can, even spending a few bucks more here and there just to support it.

hard to find a person who has NEVER done this

I would advise that owner to consider offering online sales to widen their customer base and potentially increase their profit margin by selling knife related paraphenalia as well as other EDC type goodies. But then again, that is just me.;)

The local mom and pop store I've gone to prices their knives at just under what you could order them online for. I guess they're realized they gotta do it to compete.

They are only $30 each man...get them both and decide for yourself which is the best for you.

I own 2 Tenaciouses...or would that be Tenaciaii??.................anywhay, I have a Persistence on the way. Had to have them both.

Same thing here. Recently switched from my D4 for EDC at work in favor of a slightly larger blade. So far I like the Tenacious plenty and if I was going to go smaller again I'd definately go back to the Delica. In fact, I've been tempted to pick up a VG10 E4 to replace the Tenacious since the liner lock isn't exactly ideal for southpaws (but not problematic either).

IM afraid it will probably end up that way... after buying 3 Byrds... or Byrdae? I probably need to slow just a bit.

But just yesterday my wife asked what I wanted as a gift for Valentines day... I didnt know we were doing gifts for VD! LOL...

Very tempting to say... ANOTHER KNIFE! LOL.

Another vote for get 'em both. I have 'em both. Along w/a Resilience. Carring the Persistence in my back left pocket and the Resilience in my waistband now. Tenacious was IWB until I got my Resilience early this week. All great knives. And with both of them you have variety.

^I've contemplated carrying my Tenacious IWB...but I'm honestly not too sure I trust the in handle retention. It's fine for pocket carry, and I usually have it pressed against a pocket seam anyway, but IWB is reserved for my Byrd Cara Caras, which have better IHR. I'm probably just paranoid...but if I'm carrying a knife that close to anything important, I think I can afford to be.

As for which knife to choose...obviously I chose the Tenacious. :p Perhaps someday I'll pick up the Ambitious...but for the minimal difference in blade length, I'd rather carry a Tenacious vs the Persistence. I find the blade neither too big to use in front of most sheeple, nor too small to handle anything I need it to do. And while I have found very little difference in the F&F between it and my Byrds...there's something inately cool about owning an actual, branded Spyderco knife.
