tenkara experiment

I have been reading about tenkara lately . It seems to fit my simple stick to the basics style . but I really don't want to spend a $100 on a rod to try it so My first experiment was to take a 7 ' 6 section telescopic panfish pole pole with a light action these rods come from singapore from ebay I have a 6' one too . I have caught fish on the using tiny jigs and #2 test when they were not taking anything else . using fluorocarbon line as the "fly line" and #2 test as a leader I was able to 1. get the line to lay out like fly line 2. catch a few nice bluegills . the next step is I have ordered a 10' 12 section rod from ebay @ a whopping $8.76 , If this works to my liking I'll save my pennies for a good tenkara rod.
