Does anyone know anything about tennis?

I want to get into it, and today I bought a Dunlop 300G racquet that was on sale fro $70, down from $200. I played with it a bit against a brick wall, and it seemed very nice. It is very light, and I like it alot.

SO any advice for a newbie? and good sites? Tips? Thanks everyone.

Get a tennis pro to teach you. It'll cost a bit but you'll advance a lot quicker. That way you'll be more interested and will stick with it.

Also, Martina Hingis is back!!! Woo hoo...my favourite tennis player is out of retirement. Hope she doesn't embarrass herself and gives a decent performance.

He he, If you had said Table Tennis I could help...

Actually my advice should work for any sport: If you want to get good at it you should get into some organization like a club or league, etc. where you can be in contact with beginners, experienced players, instructors, etc. and you can play with people at your level and higher, get into tournaments, etc.

Have fun.

I found this site to be excellent for information:

Just have a good time and pay attention to your body. Like any sport, it's possible to hurt yourself playing tennis if your form is off, etc. If you've never had any lessons, getting a few would probably be helpful.

I second the advice to get some lessons. If you don't want to shell out $ for a club pro right away, there are lots of 'park district' type places that offer cheaper lessons. But definately learn the basics and mechanics properly. Tennis is a lot more fun when you are good at it, and you look much cooler playing also.

Don't skimp on your balls either, you won't maintain good form when they go flat.

Thanks guys, I'm going to look into lessons in the spring.

I bought a tube of Penn "Championship Titanium" balls, and they seem pretty nice, I already lost 1... :D

used to play when I was little. Junior tenis champ at my local courts..haha. though that was like 15+ years ago. havn't been on a court in like 7 or 8 years.

Defintely look into lessons. theres a lot of little things to learn that will go MUCH smoother with an instructor.
