hi all,

ok i'm looking for a 2 man light tent give me some ideas please.

i want it fairly light so i don't have to haul it in my super duper offroad vehicle, but big enough to camp in comfortably by myself. and i don't want to spend a buttload of money, so lets think cheap but comfortable also plus points for easy to set up and take down. think lazy.

thanks

i own two REI tents, they have a few good discount sales every so often. i have the camp dome 2 which is great for 1 person. two adults get a little cramped, no room for equipment. but one person should be fine. it's 99 bucks retail, the only downside is that it's kind of heavy at 4 lbs. 15 oz., but it's not too bad. extremely easy to put up and it's pretty comfortable.

I like Kelty Stuff.

I camp in Arkansas and I dont think I've camped when it hasnt rained in the night. I'm talkin pouring.. and it's never leaked (except the night I left the rain fly off.) Havent put any seam sealer or any waterproofing stuff on it either.

I've owned the north face rock 22 for 4 years now and never let me down. about $150

Any tent made by Eureka! Or do as I do sleep in a Hammock. Warbonnet Black Bird no sticks or rocks to worry me.

Do what I did.
Get off the ground, and enjoy great sleep in a hammock.
I couldn't/didn't believe it at first, but once I slept in one my first night, and noticed how it dramatically improved the weight on my pack, I never looked back.
I now sleep anywhere without worrying about the rocks, roots, bugs, snakes, terrain, or weather.
I got a ton of info from Hammock Forums.com. As a matter of fact, they are the reason I ended up on this site.
Good luck on your decision!

I really like my EMS stuff... problem is that I have had them for so long now that I have no idea if the current tents are as tough. Both my 2 man and 3 man EMS tents are 4 season, and the newer one was purchased in.... ummm... 94? or 93. The older one in 90. No leaks, no tears, no problems with either one. Not lightest 4 season tents made, but the 2 man has been thru hell and back. Heavy winds, heavy wet snowfall, no problems.

So you might want to check them out. :)

If you are a ground sleeper (I can't sleep in a hammock) check out the 'Shangra-La' made by Go-Lite. Basically a mosquito net with a floor. Goes up easy. Add an ultra light tarp pitched over it and you are set. Not a cold weather tent though.

I've got a fleet of different tents, but probably the best bang for the buck are my Eureka Mountain Pass 2XT and 4XT. The 2XT is a two person, and almost rates as a four season. Double doors, double vestibules, aluminum poles, and lots of venting an tie-out points. All for less than $150-----I actually got mine on sale for $99. You'll live like a king if camping solo, or still be very comfortable with a spouse. Even when I eventually thin my herd, I'm keeping both of the XTs.

Amen, brother. Best setup we have used to-date. It gets high praises in my upcoming SWAT gear review article, while the OTB boots and Katadyn Hiker filter get a :thumbdn:

I'm another one who much prefers to camp in a hammock, but when I'm stuck sleeping on the ground, I love the REI Quarter Dome.

The 3-man version of the Quarter Dome is lighter than many "backpacking" two man tents, and has lots of spare room inside for gear. The two man is still enough space for two adults, but for the slight weight penalty, I much prefer to carry the three man.

I'd much rather be sleeping in the trees, though...
