What do you guys use when you have to set up tents/rain flys in sand?
I have some of those 12" plastic stakes that are "t" shaped in cross section, will they work better than the regular round stakes? What are some other options?

I have used a rock about the size of a fist and tied it to a piece of 550 cord about 12-15 inches long and bury it into the sand.

I know exactly what stakes you are talking about and yes they are better than the typical round ones. Last year I went camping up around Lake Michigan and the site was all sand. I read up ahead of time and found out if you bury those stakes a foot under ground, they will hold well. We had quite a storm pop up and two of the stakes pulled out. If you want something that will hold well, I would suggest deadmans. You can make some easily enough. It's worth it in the long run. Having your tent implode in the middle of the night during a rainstorm is no fun.

Thanks for all the info, I think I'll try the sand anchors.

Tie off to rocks or logs. You could tie off in the middle of your stakes and then burry the stakes in the T form so they stay put.
