I am looking for a tent that is packable, but large enough to be comfortable. I have looked at two person tents and three person tents. I have a one man tent already. It will most often be used by me alone, but I wanted something large enough for an extra person and gear. What are your thoughts? Any suggestions?

This is from REI's website. http://www.rei.com/product/862425/rei-quarter-dome-3-tent I would love to find something less expensive that does the job and is fairly light. Not planning on more than a couple of days camping at a time. Have considered the two man version, but have reservations it won't be big enough to be comfortable. This is most for casual camping and occasional primitive camping where you hike in. But no extended hiking trips.

I can't help with the tent input since I have gone to a hammock. Worth looking into, Hennessey makes a good one as do others. Sleeping on the ground got too hard on me.

Take a look at some of the tents by ALPS Mountaineering. Very similar to some of the more expensive tents, at a much lower price. I have an older version of this one. They call it 3 man, but it's more of a comfy 2 man, with gear. I've used it for 3 week-long trips, and many more overnighters. They are a little heavier, but for the price, I haven't found anything better. Very good quality.

here is a 2 man version. Probably tight 2 man, or roomy 1 man.

Thanks Tylosaurus, Tent No. 1 may just get ordered in a day or so. The price on the REI was a bit steep for me and the amount of use I was likely to give it. Not saying I couldn't buy the REI, but would prefer not to. My use will likely be similar to yours; canoe/kayak, over nighters now and then, and so forth. Not into long overnight hiking as I would almost have to gear up from scratch.

I have found that so called 4-man tents are are 3-men tents unless its kids. Three is two and two is one.

Check out Tarptent.

I have the double rainbow and love it. Very comfy for two people, palatial for one. Best part is that it's also tall enough to sit up in comfortably for a game of cards.

Actually, the best part is that it's hand crafted in the USA.

Wait, no, it's the 40oz total weight...

They also make some great trekking pole supported tents of you use poles.

Thought I would tell ya Tylosaurus. Just ordered it. I appreciate your help and I think this will do the trick. There was even more discounts with a coupon. I am really not all that picky. I just want something that is of reasonably good quality and works.

Guess this thread is done. -Closed-
