I am needing a tent,12x12 or bigger something that will stands up to the weather and elements under $500 ,can someone show me a link,i have been searching on the web most are cheap made in china.........thanx

This past summer had some six-person tents (which is more like four person) in the $300 range at Bass Pro Shops. All season, too, which caught my eye.

how bout the canvas tents....anyone used one these are starting over $500 but looks like the best...

you could always make one ,go to a welding shop and have em weld you up some kind of frame .Those guys can do just about anything and then order up some heavy canvas. You can get what you want and make it as heavy duty as you like.

How packable do you need it? :/ Yurts are pretty popular around here, but the canvas alone weighs more than one person can pack.

well weight is no biggie,me and my wife tried a meijer tent and the fiberglass rod broke in the first 5 mins............

Believe it or not - try Dick's - they have some nice tents and they're very reasonable and seem sturdy enough

Springbar vagabond 7. 10'x14' easy set up, very well built. Heavy as hell!

This, springbars are built locally and have been for a long time... as far as tents are concerned. Have a coworker who has one that is over 25 years old. Still going strong, his has been thru every weather condition one would imagine, its humorous to hear some of his stories. Bought mine... a family camper 7 2 years back based off of his and a few dozen other coworkers praise, glad I did. Like stated above, not for backpacking, but for car camping/ scout camping, they are great. Between the pole bag and the canvas bag (which also includes the floor protector and door mats) it weighs in just shy of 80 pounds.

FYI, you dont need to seamseal, but before you take it out, set it up and hose it off good wait for it to dry, then take it down and set it back up and hose it down good again. this will cause the thread to expand and prevent leaks. After doing this 3 times or so it will NOT leak, but if you fail to skip this step it may leak... mine did, on the maiden voyage, after returning and talking to the knowledgeable staff they informed me of this step. It has been fine since.

You might want to check out the REI Campdome 6 from REI.com. I just bought one and am impressed with it thus far. I would not consider it to be anything other than a 3 season tent though. It is a great summer/fall family tent with lots of headroom, lots of space, and sets up quickly which were the requirements for me when I was looking for a new family tent.

craigslist may be you best bet, I got a nearly mint canvas tent for $50 a few years back, and I love it! It was made in 1963, but who cares? It just sat in someone's attic for years, and now it lives with me! Canvas all the way if weight is no issue, and if you want a truly weather-proof tent, the wind, rain, or anything else stays where you want it, OUTSIDE! Happy hunting!

Here are a couple that have been mentioned, a Tipi style would be unique. Cabela's for a heavy tent is a good choice and they will always take it back if you're not happy with your choice after a trip.

Hey guys,

Last week we had our first overnighter in the new lavvu.
The tent is a Bison Tundra 8 lavvu.
