Found a new one at Blockbuster last night, says it's from 2009, I don't remember it being in theaters around here, but it's called "Carriers" and stars Chris Pine from the new Star Trek.

From the lead characters age in a flashback, I'd say that most of the story takes place about 6-7 years after a virus breaks out, that devastates the population and the resulting collapse shuts down all the power and stuff.

2 young couples trying to make it to somewhere they might be safe, encounter various people along the way.

Not a rampaging zombie movie, or biker hoards, but it does give a decent portrayal of how in a situation like this, the lines between "good guy" and "bad guy" can be stretched very thin and by people that you might not expect it from, but when they are scared, hungry and desperate they can do things that they never thought they would.

Sounds like something I'll have to catch this week

I completely missed the movie that came out recently in theaters with Viggo Mortenson (I think it's him) with his son and they are trying to go somewhere. Maybe the movie version of The Road  I've been meaning to watch it, but forgot about it until now :o

It's not as good as I was hoping, but certainly not bad. I don't think it was as long after the outbreak as you suspect--remember the school scene, for instance? In any case, it's not a bad movie to watch at all!

Sounds like a good one! Personally, 'Blindness' is one of my favorite ones. They have a different angle on the story, but I like the portrayal of humanity at its tipping point that it conveys.

Agreed. It illustrates how quickly the predator types can form up into gangs and cause some real misery for others.

Anyone here seen The Road?
Another movie about TEOTW - portrays massive natural disasters I think, its based off of a book, but it was a pretty good movie.

EDIT: just saw J's knives and more post

, yeah about a man and his son

Anyone seen "The Crazies"? Just came out this year, looked pretty decent. I love TEOTWAWKI thrillers, but they can't be too cheesy.

Saw Blindness 2 weeks ago. That was a pretty good movie! Real disturbing too, especially when they debate if the women should prostitute themselves for the food

Watched it last night. Your description is most apt. A more story/plot driven film.

I like Carriers but they made the same mistake everybody does in these movies they all pile into ONE CAR and then when it breaks down they are screwed and have to walk. Happens in almost all these movies they either crash or run out of gas or something. I would have had another vehicle or two loaded down with cargo like water, food, ammo, and tools and extra fuel that way when the car breaks down get in the van. Blindness made me wonder why she didnt just shank the guy that was demanding women for the food he had six shots and he aint useta being blind toss some junk in back and to the side of him and he'd probably just start blasting at anything heck when he did shoot he hit more of his own people than anyone else. I have a hard time turning off the survival part of my brain when I watch movies like this.
