Am I to understand that there are two different batches? One with five layers of colors and one with three?

I have noticed that some Tequila handles are more black/purple/tan and some are more red/orange/green/tan.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

Can you point to some examples? both versions that you describe don't seem to match that ones I have. Mine are red/tan/black.

Perhaps I was describing them wrong. I'm talking about the difference between the top left and the two bottom left. They are clearly from a different batch.

I find the bottom two more attractive, just because they remind me of Snakeskin a little bit.

Do you know anything about the two batches?

I dont think the real difference is in the # of layers, but rather the difference in the shade of the colors.

edit yes you just said that while I was typing^:)

Most or all the TS MOABs from BLADE '09 had less red showing, but it's in there. The BOSS Jacks from this year's show were more like the other knives in my pic, with a good amount of red with the tan & black. I have no idea about the ones that you mentioned, which is why I asked about pix. :) Ya got me curious!!

Ok, I'll give it up, T... :D
Since 2007, the first year that SE sets were offered through 2009, I've managed to complete each at BLADE... When I noticed that the 2009 IAD/KL/JH/MOAB were not marked, I asked Garth if he would be so kind as to laser both the TS and BP sets with the 2009 SE for me. :)
Thanxx, Garth!!

That pic you posted is exactly what I am talking about.

Regardless of the grind, if you look at the layers on the side you can see that the top one is more maroon and the bottom two are more red. They are without a doubt two different batches of G-10.

Are you saying that they are all from the same batch, and that the color difference is due to the depth of the CNC machining?

I...believe so. Don't quote me on that! ;) The lighting in the pic may have a little to do with the variance also.

T, I edited my post with the MOAB SE 2009 pic with an explanation. :)

I prefer the original with the red instead of the maroon, like I said, it reminds me of snakeskin.

Perhaps Jerry could weigh in?

Matteo my friend, I wasnt trying to derail you. I got excited over the 2009 special.

I have a couple that vary in color. Kinda like some of the others g10's. I consider em kinda customs, but I have no idea as to why they are different:thumbup:

Hopefully, he'll see this and chime in. :) Here's the whole image... It looks like the one with more 'maroon' may actually be darkened by the black layer in closer proximity to the red.

are you referring to the moab handle? isn't that "desert sandstorm g-10" instead of tequila sunrise, or something like that?

Although it appears that way in my pic, there are some red layers in it. It is "Tequila Sunrise" G-10, no doubt. Different machined handle patterns do tend to produce different variations even if the layers are in the same order. :)

Any word from the Boss? I know you have his cell #!
