Hi guys,
I am very new to knives and I am having trouble understanding the terminology that is used when people are talking about knives. Is it just going to take time for me to learn or is there a place on the web that I can visit that explains meanings something like acronyms.
BTW I am really enjoying the community here but I am having trouble staying out of the Knife Exchange:D

 +1. That's a great resource and, if there are any questions that doesn't answer, you can always use the search function here or just ask.

I like that that glossary gives useful and generally accepted opinions about steels as opposed to just dryly stating their chemical makeup. I think I'll go ahead and read the whole thing!

Also, now that I kind of know what "Lock Up" means, what is a good Lock Up number 50% ?
I see different numbers in the marketplace.

Lock up can be a matter of personal opinion, and the materials being used.

Most guy prefer an early lock up, ~10-30%, and anything beyond ~60-70% is usually considered a late lock up. An early lock up is seen as better, as its more user friendly and easier to disengage, more room to get your thumb in there to unlock it. However, a late lockup "can" be stronger and it may lock up tighter. Stainless steel can lockup later and not move, while titanium can move over time/use, as it is softer than the steel blade. I do like mine 40-60%, but I'm not as picky as many. An early lockup will generally give you longer lock life also. Hope this helps, PM me if you want more details on this.
