Have any of you tried out a knife with TerTuf for the handle material? If so do you think its as good as or better than G10 and Micarta?

I just found out about this material and it seems interesting on paper. Does not seem to be much choice in colors and not sure what the appearance finished is actually like.

I have one large knife with it and prefer its grip over g10 or canvas micarta, especially with sweaty or wet hands.

I use terotuf alot in my blades and really like it. Its more durable and grippy than micarta.

Here's what it can look like finished.

From what I hear, super grippy.
The only caveat is issues with shrinking, which Nathan Carothers and Dan Keffeler have mitigated by using Micarta liners

What causes the shrinkage and how much are we talking?

It has low dimensional stability and behaves almost like stabilized wood does with regards to shrinking and expanding with humidity. It can expand and contract enough to make a tang slightly proud. However I think the con of it being less dimensionally stable than micarta is outweighed by its extreme toughness and grippiness

Thanks so much for all the info. It looks like most are using a grey color?

I've used a Dan Keffeler Sasquatch and loved the TeroTuf handle. Very comfortable and very grippy. Can't go wrong.

I love tero tuf. It's my go to handle material for users.

As Hunter mentioned, the one complaint that I have heard from one maker is that TeroTuf does "move"

I've had 6-7 blades handled in it, and I live in a very variable climate. 90 degrees with 100% humidity in summer to 20 degrees in winter. Never had any move so far. Of course, now that I say it, next time I pull one out it will have moved.

It looks like most are opting to go with a grey color?

Sounds 'bout right, I don't remember seeing terotuf in any other color. AFAIK, Spyderco tried using it some years back (I think they showcased a Tero Tuf handled Military concept model at the 2009 Shot Show) but it seems the results did not warrant full scale production.

I've had blue and green and orange. I like the colors, but they show dirt really easily.

I wondering what stopped them from moving forward. Fear of warranty claims due to shrinkage or?

I use it on a lot of knives. I've never had any shrink on me and none have ever had any reported shrinking and Ive shipped almost all over this country and to some others. Are there any users that have experienced this that can chime in? I've read (from Nathan I believe) that shrinkage can be about maybe .01". However, my google foo hasn't turned up any user experiences. I'd like to preface this with the fact that I trust Nathan's info but I'd like to hear about any real experiences that have occurred.

I have been using it a few months for food prep. It has been exposed to balistol, hand sweat/oil and food particles etc..... I clean it with a toothbrush and dishwashing liquid when I start to see any dirt without any issues. I don't find it any harder to clean than micarta however I have never tried pounding dirt and smearing grime into the scales and leaving it there to find out how hard it would be to clean later. As I have said before they hold their original color well. They have good gripping qualities when wet or dry.

Now I would like to know if I can rit dye this stuff successfully since RGT sells them in white. Most likely the answer is yes (rit makes dyes for polyester and Terotuf is likely porous) but I am not 100% sure. Has anyone done so before?
