Bushman5 and I were hiking off the beaten path along what is probibly an animal made trail, or ancient logging road when we found this. It was probibly about 7 feet up the tree

I've seen this before but didn't have a camera. Was looking for confirmation in what it was. bear scratchings are usually thicker claw marks, and more of them. could it have been a mountain lion?

need more details. how high was it off the ground? how many cuts are there? what kinda area was this in? are there any fallen trees nearby?

i am leaning towards the same answer as mistwalker.

two to three visible slashes, NO trees on that side to fall, and NO fallen trees on the ground (this is an area that is NOT frequented or cleaned up at all, and is near a game trail

6.5 feet up at the bottom of the scratch, 3 scratches. All running parallel starting and stopping in the same places.

I'd seen other bear scratches before and they were all 4 claws and more mauled up so I wondered.
