the next was much better after getting a feel for the blade

nice clean cut

impressions:
the balance on this thing is a little waki. i guess i'm just not used to so much weight on the back end (even though the balance is forward of the grip). it still feels weird in two hands as well, perhaps due to such a short blade (i'm used to european longswords). i'd planned on taking some of the handle off, and now that i have it, i think i'll go with just behind the fourth tube so i can still get two hands on if i need to, but this feels like it's primarily going to be one handed.

the grind is a little thick, but that's easily remedied. it does far better at chopping than slicing right now. pull cuts were much less effective, although blade length is also a factor here.

love the extremely shallow choil. won't get caught if i need to draw cut something.

the handle feels pretty awesome. nice and comfy and round.

everything else: badass

after a few hours of work: major problems solved. looks and feels way better imo. i'll save the sharpening for tomorrow

Nice photos and initial testing! :)

What's the color combo?

I think the pommel is gonna be for a connecting piece to make it into a mini naginita (sp?) or like an elf sword from Lord of the Rings movie...

 That's some serious mod work.

Did you just hacksaw it off?

I would love to compare the handling of that one to the original, why don't you just ship it to me?

btw, did you mod that EU MoJo? Couldn't remember. Do you have a link to pics?

WOW:eek:

That didn't take long.

You may have won the award for the first WAKI mod.

I just want double cut;)

That's brutal.
I'd have to "hem and haw" for weeks, then plan it all out, then "hem and haw" a bit more before I could just cut the ass off my waki.

Still, more power to you, though I'm not sure I like the aesthetics of it.
To me it looks bare ass nekkid round the back. And then there is the problem of where would you keep your tennis balls?
:D

naw, i sold that mofo to someone else who gave it a satin.

i tried a hacksaw, but it was taking forever. it may have needed a new blade. i took it to the belt sander, and sanded it at an angle so i wouldn't take as much time. went pretty quickly actually. i love the handling of it now. feels more like a real wakizashi. balance is now centered on the logo, but it isn't as heavy in the back. not sure if anybody else thinks it feels weird with all that weight in the back?

i planned this out when i first saw it. i knew i wouldn't like such a long handle on such a short blade. then when i got and felt the balance it i knew for certain that's what was going to happen

Having never owned or used a Wakizashi, I have no idea what they are supposed to feel like. But your mod looks good to me. With more of the weight on the blade, I suppose it might chop better.
