Figured I should share this, on the off chance anyone else here could benefit from it...

My Mitutoyo .0005" dial test indicator started getting sticky and not repeating. Who knows why... maybe dropped too many times, maybe funky and gunky inside from years of use (it was a hand-me-down). Rather than pitching it and spending a heap of money on a new one, I stumbled across a guy that repairs them.

Turnaround was stupidly fast (in fact, I had to have him hold my order for a few days while I was out of town), the DTI came back immaculate and working better than it did when it was first handed to me, and tests flawlessly on my gage blocks. Pricing was VERY reasonable, too.

For a hobbyist-level yutz like me, I'm more than satisfied with the results, and don't know if I'm capable of discerning the performance of his repair from a new one. A job shop may wish to reduce the risk and exposure and just write it off, but I'm happy as all get-out that I didn't just have to buy a new one for a lot more money.

Hope this helps someone else, too.

Good information Thanks Matt....

Sometime back I took one to a watch repair guy here locally on the off chance he could clean an adjust one. This guy is OLD got to be 90's but he did a watch for me once so I figured nothing ventured right....he knocked it out in 2 days and was dead nuts on when tested it there in front of me. He was telling me how the Mitutoyo movement were just as good as top of the line Swiss movements.

Thanks for sharing I've got a box of stuff that needs fixing.

Glad to hear that, Matt. It seems like anymore the things we purchase are throw away and get a new one. Good to know there are places that still repair quality tools.
Thanks for sharing.
