test on clay?

I was wondering if anyone tried testing their knives on a non-hardening modeling clay. I don't know if it's abrasive for edge retention tests, but I thought it would be usable for testing for slicing/stabbing. You could flatten some out into a sheet to slice, or wad it into a block to stab, and you could reform it & use it over and over-a phone book and sheets of paper get used up. Maybe you could even try shaving thin layers of it to check sharpness. Only problem I can think of off hand would be getting bits of clay in the lock/pivot of a folder.

While phonebooks get used up, it isn't difficult to get them and they are free. I use them primarily as they have a built in measuring calibration in the page numbers. Every media has its use, the best way to find out what it offers is to use some blades on it and something else and see what you learn in comparison.
