My thanks to everyone for the help. Galloglas- I appreciate it. That was possibly the easiest thing I've ever done with this computer!
 
My son thought this looked like a backbone, so we're calling it the Vertebrate. It is 3/16" 5160 steel, I ground the blade down to about 3/32", 6 3/4" oal with a 3 1/4" cutting edge. The whole thing was etched with ferric chloride to give it a gray color, then I cold blued the handle. Thanks.
 
A miniature naginata! Richard, keep on carving, this is cool! Using bluing is a great idea.
