Upon seeing Idahoskunk's french dip recipe a few threads down, I said to myself, "a recipe with only four ingredients, two of which are meat and beer, must surely be worth trying."
So yesterday morning, I threw a roast, a bottle of Sierra, some broth and a packet of onion soup mix into the crockpot, then headed off to work.
Later that night...
I returned home from work, late as usual, to find my wife sitting alone at the dining table, clutching a knife and fork, empty plate in front of her and eyes that said, "GIMME FRENCH DIP NOW!!!"
So in keeping with the "less is more" theme, I grabbed my newly-acquired ZTNO, pulled the roast out of the crockpot, plopped it on the cutting board and proceeded to shred the little sucker up. The ZTNO did its thing with ease, though truth be told, the meat was so tender I could have shredded it with a coffee mug.
(Apologies for the dim lighting, but it's an 1898 kitchen with 1898 lighting)
Add some toasted rolls with melted swiss, a cup of the juices for dipping, two cold beers and we were in hog heaven! The ZTNO looked pretty happy too.
So I hereby nominate 'skunk for the Henry David Thoreau "life is frittered with details - simplify, simplify" Award for Fine Crockpot Cuisine.
Cheers!
