You can hit the "edit" button on that post to see how he entered the new "smilies" - with the "IMG" command.

If you want to use those smilies, in a non-commercial "fair use" sort of context, it is a good idea to save the little images, which are typically .gif files, to your hard drive, and then upload them to your own web server space, rather than summoning them from somebody elses's and using their bandwidth whenever somebody clicks on the thread with your post in it.

If you don't have a web site of your own, your ISP may well provide you with a megabyte or ten of free server space with your subscription. You can always use a basic FTP probram to upload to an images directory there, and link to it from message boards, even if you don't actually create a web site.

Well, the address is http://smilecwm.tripod.com

As for fair use

"Ok, just copy the text next to the smiley you want and paste it into your ubb massage =) You may use these smileys on message boards as much as you want. (i.e. don't email me asking permission to use them at your favorite forum)
YOU MUST ASK PERMISSION TO IMPLEMENT Crack-*****_Monkey's INTO YOUR OWN BOARD OR USE THEM ON YOUR WEBPAGE, ETC."

So if I'm stepping on any toes, sorry. That's what the instructions say. As for bandwidth issues, well, I don't know. He says to use the text which links to his site. Maybe he gets a fee for each hit? I'm quite new at this and don't know if I'm doing something wrong. Just stumbled onto the site and read the instructions...

Well, if the site says (and it does say) "go ahead and paste this into your UBB message board," then take them up on their invitation!

A while back a bunch of folks here started useing smileys from some other site, and using them a lot, and that site did not have blanket permission posted, and BladeForums got a "love letter" from them saying "desist or pay."

This caution applies especially if you're posting large high-resolution images from somebody else's web page, of knives or people or whatever.

Jame, perhaps you could take this up with Mr. Spark(seeing as you're one o'them annointed moderater-types) and see what he says? Would we be opening floodgates?

(I thought of a great comparison of smileys for Heinekin IceHouse, and Guiness. Didn't know if Bill might object though, as the one i chose for Guiness involves graphic ummm, regurgitation, since Guiness, for me at least, really does involve such...pastimes)
