A couple days ago, my son and I went for a walk about a mile and half down the road and tested out two of the axes I'm getting ready to give away for Christmas.

This axe is for my brother. It's unmarked. I'm calling it a Kentucky pattern. I love it. He better love the piss out of it, or I will steal it from him. That's the Christmas spirit! :D

This little Plumb DB cruiser is pretty slick. I'm thinking of giving it to my dad. I wanted to find out if the existing handle was sound. Well, I found out.

Thanks for watching!

I have been dying to try out an axe like the first one (Kentucky/Jersey type). Both those axes look to be a pleasure to use!

What was grain alignment of this one. What's the wood (from a the pic, looks like hickory).

That would be an interesting experience (although quite dangerous) to see "how it fails".
(Okay that might be a bit too dangerous, particularly if you consider the axe is double bit).

Yep, it's hickory. The grain alignment is pretty much ideal, actually, and very tight. However, the handle is old, and who knows what it's been through.

A fine looking axe and fine looking chopping. The Kentucky knocks out some nice chips.
