Hi everyone, last march I did this sheath mod http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1165869-Another-BK2-Sheath-Mod its been a busy year for me so I only got out for a few short hikes. A few weeks ago I finally got out for a good test/hike to see how well the kit would perform. I wanted to share some pics and thoughts on the kit.

I had two issues one the retention strap broke, so I'll have to get a bigger grommet and come up with something a little more sturdy

The paracord makeshift leg strap I did started out great but 3 miles in it became restrictive, not so much so it was painful but uncomfortable, so I'll just need to extend it maybe 1/4 or 1/2" I don't want to leave it too loose so it lends to getting snagged, here's a pic from last march of it

So if you'll allow me the indulgence I'd like to share the hike I took a bunch of people from work on

Decided to test myself and see if I could get the BK2 to do as well or better than I can with the mora bushcraft black with feather sticks & curls, I think yes

Thanks for looking!

This whole thread is full of badassness. Good on you sir,and lovely pictures.

For a leg strap you may want to think about using a strip of 1" webbing (like a cinch strap from a pack) instead of the paracord. Slightly more comfortable and a bit less restrictive.

Those are some great pics. Beautiful area. Thanks for sharing!

The webbing is a good idea; would be probably a lot more comfortable. Or else maybe add a section of shock cord to the paracord to allow more movement? Good luck refining your sheath.

Thanks!! I wish I could get out and do it more.

Like a backpack strap? I was thinking of putting a sliding knot in, I forget what its called but its two half hitches so I'll try the loop out of that instead of the overhand knot I have now. I'd have to do similar with the webbing I'm guessing to accommodate as I'm assuming my legs were swelling from all the work. It was 9 miles in 5.5 hrs, two of the guys had calorie burn trackers and one was 3380 and the other was 3570 calories burned. It's a tough day :D

thank you

Really enjoyed this, thanks for posting. Illustrates how important it is to test your gear and any mods you do. Don't know how many times I've peeled/cut/slung a "great idea" on a shakedown hike.

Oh hey, cool!

Is that right near the Lamont campus on the Hudson?

I had taken it camping a few times but this was the first real hike. I was looking at some other threads today with guys making danglers and I thought the way I have it set up will only be good for day packs and not backpacking after reading those so maybe I can come up with something that I can move back and forth between a stock length belt carry and dangler

I did a sheath mod that was somewhere between what you did, and one of Warriors old mods. And I ended up using an old belt that had come with some pair of shorts years ago. Worked/works great, but a strap from a backpack or old bag would work just as well.

And looks like a great hike :).

Yea I'm thinking I could put the webbing for the leg strap like Warrior did but I'd have to do something like mounting it through the bolts I'm using for the BK11 sheath I don't have the same room you guys have. I do like the buckles you guys did and the mutil tool idea here http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/845352-BK2-Sheath-Mod.-Extremely-Photo-Heavy?p=9578614#post9578614 I could change into a small med kit, since I have a multitool and firesteel on the sheath now and make a second one that I use for backpacking so there is nothing on my hips, thanks for the suggestions

depending on if I go through the state park or not its 45m to an hour drive away. The one in rockland i'm assuming

Ah, cool.
I used to work there. The campus is in NYS, but the entrance from the road is in NJ, so it's right there on the border going over to the river.

Great thread and pics, TMI. Great that you got all your friends to go with, also nice that the AT goes behind your house.

But I got a question:

facebook_-1506224550_zpsabf54dfa.jpg

How did you get Denzel Washington to come with you?
