Testing Super Cedar Firestarters

Jeepnut and I had the same idea (prolly cause were both Jeep nuts..). My son and I set this morning on our land to test the Super Cedar that the Scouts sell:

We took our Mora rig, trusty ATAX, foil, plain box of matches, Super Cedar, and Pit Bull. My son gathered kindling (mostly Hawthorn) laid out the foil, and lit the Super Cedar block on the second match (instructions say to just hold a match under it). The cedar starts slowly and goes into full burn after 10 minutes.

Observations:
- Works very well, don't need a whole block to start a fire
- We put ours out after 30 minutes, will apparently burn for 50
- weighs 3 oz
- produces a lot of heat and fire, creates heat woth no other wood

Conclusion: My 8 year old lit it in a gentle breeze and it burned well, I give it a thumbs up...

MM,

Thanks. I am now a fan of cedar too, seems like they could be used a lot of ways: powdered for fire starting, small chunks as tinder, full blocks for small emergency fires, etc.

No, I didn't make the rig. A saddlemaker in the Adirondacks made it for me. Very light....
