Hi all

On the last weekend I spent two days in a forest north of my city using as my primary tool BK2...The rainforest is terrible, hot, humid and with many insects, but can be a supermarket if we have knowledge. Below share photos..I hope you enjoy:)

This stay was no water problem, I found a small stream and all water used was that it (of course with the help of a LifeStraw filter).:D

This palm is common and provides small coconut with almonds that have a good nutritional value..

The coconuts are very hard to break (not a tool for Becker)...

In small coconuts older does not have almonds but still a major source of protein ..

These beetle larvae may seem horrible, but they are delicious and have a high nutritional value and only very consumed by Indians of this region...People who get lost in the jungle can be several days surviving only with them!

The hunger overcomes disgust!!

Also found sweet fruits for lunch!

Another source of protein are nuts that fall in the months of the end of the year .. capsules are very, very harsh containing small nuts.

Only one species of rodents can break the capsule in the forest and of course .. my BK2:D

I had the chance to eat a snake and some fish but preferable to feed me things test out my Becker ...

Again I came to this conclusion: It's easier to stay alive with a tool Becker!!!!

And As said in the other topic Moosez: If one does not challenge one's self, then there is no growth...

Some awesome pics man, and some nice lessons on that area. Also cool, as I've never seen Brazil nuts (as we call them up here) being harvested in the wild. The BK-2 is definitely a heck of a work horse survival knife. Thanks for sharing the pics!

Yeah .. the Brazil nut in nature are taken from within this large capsule .. very hard! Some rodents break, bury and forget .. after new born tree! these animals are very important for Brazil nuts Tree (which here is protected by law and can not be knocked down).

Thanks for sharing! How does the 1095CV hold up to the humidity?

Unfortunately 1095 rusts faster than a heart attack ... but as parties that lose the ink are always in use (this helps keep the rust without) ... hold up very well after returning to step case oil on exposed parts and everything returns to normal

I had a hard time figuring out how to get protein from coconuts until I scrolled through your pics.
Then lost my appetite once I understood!
Very cool trip! Thanks for sharing!

We should take a group field trip to Saymons, with all the pictures you share i can only imagine it would be a trip of a lifetime. Im envious to your location and habitat.

When i was a boy i lived in a little town around 1000 people in florida, it was a great simple life. but i couldnt wait to leave when i hit 18, being from a modest background i joined the military just to leave. years later im out the military Now and im in the 5th or 6th largest city in the US with over 1.5 million people and i HATE it. i have to go over an hour to find peace. Im now buying a chunk of wooded land back in that same small town in florida and cant wait to return.

You my friend are far luckier than you can imagine.

Right... one time I accidentally left a 1095 knife out in the rain for about an hour and had to sand the entire thing down to get rid of the rust, not fun at all. But I live in a dry climate, so I don't have to take care of them quite as well as you would have to since it's not very humid.

Awesome pictures! Pretty informative too.

Great thread man . What an amazing backyard u have. It makes me want to get out in the woods badly
Thanks for sharing

Nice trip, some real natural beauty in the jungle, those wild edibles look pretty tasty too

I enjoyed your pics and story again... You also make me kinda in a weird way want to try a grub just to see what they taste like....:confusion:

If I may ask please,

What did the larvae found within the coconuts taste of? I presume coconut, and if that is the case...I'd happily roast a bowl full of them. Also, what is the name of the small red fruits, and what is a fruit with a similar taste? That trip sounds like a lot of fun. Makes me wish I could get out and take pictures.

Hello,

Larvae are found within the old coconuts. small green coconuts are not for consumption and when they have almonds inside she is very tough and oily .... the larvae end up being the best choice and taste better ..
Unfortunately do not know the name of the fruit, but it has a sweet taste of a tomato ... Indians use to eat and how to use and attractive animals for hunting ...

Glad you like, friend.

Really like this place i live in, are large and beautiful forests. And glad to know that you will come back to live in an environment that has always loved ..

When you can visit the Amazon will have a friend in the adventure!

Hi saymon, I was wondering what food do those larvae most closely taste like? Do they taste like chicken?
