I've been thinking about making one of these for a while, but haven't had the time. When my son asked me if I would make one, I had to do it. I cut the blade off a digging bar, drilled 20 holes in the shaft and forged in pins, and forged down the cone shaped stop on the handle end into a cylinder. It weighs a bit over 11 Lbs and is 4 feet long. It's fun to play with but once it gets moving you have to be real careful; the centrifugal force and angular momentum get to joint stretching and bone twisting levels, and trying to stop it or suddenly changing direction wouldn't work out real well.

Has anyone else made anything like this? I'd like to see it if you have.

I made a wooden studded kenabo a while back, which this likes a close cousin of.

Looks interesting and nothing I'd like to be whacked with

Cool work!

Thanks! I toyed with the idea of a wooden one, but steel is more up my alley. I'll be making more, and I'll post'em here...

Dang! Nasty looking stuff!

Yes, there is a certain level of body mechanics coupled with the physics of handling such a weapon. As a one of my FMA teachers once said: "the highest skill is being one with your weapon".
