Texarkana Bowie by Mike Ruth, JS

Mike Ruth, JS, the "Best New Maker" at Blade 2005, was on my short list of people to see ASAP at this year's show. It took me about ten seconds to say the word SOLD, after this one came out of the zippered case. and into my hand. I was ready to hip check WWG, when he came a little too close to MY knife. Mike does excellent work and will be one of the three featured makers, along with Steve Dunn, MS & Jerry Fisk, MS, at the Fisk Micro Invitational Show, this October at Jerry's shop in Nashville, AR.

What a Bowie. That 10.75" blade is killer. The Stag is stunning and the guard and ferrule along with the buttcap look like they belong on this wonder.
That Mike Ruth really knows what he is doing.

That's a beauty for sure.
That stag looks awesome.
Minimal sanding is the way to go with a piece of stag like that.

Three Thumbs Up!

One of the nicest looking Bowies I've seen. I like the whole package from the knife's geometry to the Stag to the f&f. I'd like to have that one.

OH,NOO,That stag is going to become an albino :D :D .Someone needs to get the brush and scrubs away from Peter,:) :) .Just kidding, that is a very nice looking bowie and that is a lovely piece of stag.

But, taste is taste, and beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I think that it is even BETTER than mine, and that was the one that won Best New Maker '05.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Both are great looking knives but I too like the damascus one better in appearance and proportions.

Now I see why you had an inkling for that gnarly popcorn stag...

Good defensive move on checking WWG. This one's a winner!

Mike's work was good enough to win the prestigious best new maker award and he has improved even more in the year since claiming it. I really like this one a lot. Definitely a no-brainer grab.
