Knife Rights supported HB 446, repealing the ban on carry of clubs (including tomahawks) and possession of knuckles (including trench knives and the like) has been signed by Texas Governor Abbot. The new law will become effective on September 1, 2019.

In 2013 Knife Rights’ repeal of Texas’ switchblade ban was enacted. In 2015 Knife Rights’ signature Knife Law Preemption was enacted, nullifying all local knife ordinances more restrictive than Texas state law, including two of the “10 Worst Anti-Knife Cities in America” at the time, San Antonio and Corpus Christi. In 2017 our bill removed all of the “illegal knives” in Texas law, finally allowing Texans the right to carry a Bowie knife, dagger and others in public.

NOTE: A Trench Knife with a blade over 5.5-inches will be considered a Location Restricted Knife and is banned from carry at some specific locations.

Good work on bringing laws in line with sanity. When I lived in Texas, I got hassled by a cop for carrying a cane. Since I wasn't leaning on it while I walked, he considered it a club. Under the law at the time, I could have been carrying a loaded riot gun, but perish the thought of wielding a cane.

I am proud of KnifeRights.org for making sure this legislation got to Gov. Abott's desk. If you love your knife freedom you should be a proud member of kniferights.org!!

That's great. Hopefully your work will influence politicians on this side of the pond as well

I am glad to see the Texas State govt. make it official. For years, there has been a comfortable truce between law enforcement and the citizens here, where law enforcement has used some pretty wide latitude in deciding who they would go after for what. I have carried a large work knife clipped to my pocket (usually 3.5" to 4") for about 20 years, and never been hassled. I don't waive it around (ever), don't "whip it out" in public for use, and don't play with any of my knives, ever.

I grew up on a knife cultured family, and part of that was simply the idea that what you had in your pocket was nobody's business. I have friends in the police department, and one that works for the NSA, and they all assure me that they have a lot better to do with their time than to go after someone like me.

Rest assured though, they will gladly pick up some moron that feels like he has to let everyone know he is carrying a big knife by "whipping it out" to hear that "satisfying *thwack*" when "deployed" so he can alarm a few people as needed.

BTW, I live in San Antonio!

Robert
