Finished this one up this morning. According to my Texas connection 5 1/2" blades can be legally carried and that's how long this 1065 blade is. Its got a curly bubinga handle, wrought iron fittings, and a 2 ply sheath. 10" overall.

5 1/2 inch total length from guard to tip. Just make sure that false edge isn't sharpened. That is a no-no in the Lone Star State too.

Yup - gorgeous knife & sheath, but Tx law says no bowies or double edges.

The last time I reviewed the Texas law on carrying a knife, it said you can't carry a dirk, dagger, or stiletto at all, and a fixed blade knife with a blade over 5 1/2" on your person when not on your own property unless you're hunting or it's in conjunction with your work. It never said anything about a bowie or other type of knife besides the aforementioned blades. Has to do with stabbing more than anything. It has been a while since I read the law and it could have changed.

That length is correct. The Texas penal code says that you can't carry a fixed blade knife with a blade longer than 5 1/2". That's fine, we all know what a BLADE is, right? Well, it seems that the Texas Supreme Court does not. Several years ago they ruled that a blade measurement was from the point to the BUTT end of the handle, or what we'd all call the overall length.

And as for switchblades, you can own one in Texas if it's a "collectable or curiosity". No one can carry one in Texas unless you are a cop or in the military AND you are on duty. That would include those old orange handled Camillus pilot's knives with the spear point blade and a line hook, but probably not anything else.

By the way, Ray, that is a nice knife. Very much your style.

The OAL is 5 1/2" as Mr Broadwell stated......that includes any knife, folding or fixed. Sounds crazy, and it is, but that's what folks are up against....pay your money and take your chances.

Wow, never hear that about the OA length before, that's ridiculous :grumpy:

Ray, I like this little Bowie Like Object a lot!

The court case that I read said overall length of the BLADE. Counsel for the defendant was trying to argue that only the length of the cutting edge counted. Of course, the first silly question that popped into my mind was if you could carry a knife with a 5 q/2 inch blade.............and an 18 inch nightstick for a handle? LOL

Exactly, lol. In fact, I think Raymond has made a few edged weapons that might fit into what your thinking (I'm thinking about your war clubs Ray!)

Here's a couple of the ones I was thinking of:
