I haven't posted much in a while. I've been super busy in the shop. Thought I'd post this one up though.

This is a mid sized cowboy bowie I finished just before Christmas for a great collector and friend of mine in Texas.

Hand forged from 1075 steel
Differentially hardened with time/temp control of my salts
13 1/4" overall, 8 1/4" blade, .220" thick at the ricasso w/ sharp distal taper
Clip is just shy of sharp
Rounded spine and ricasso edge
Hardened and blued 1084 steel fittings
Coined stainless steel spacer and finial
Texas Mesquite handle

All comments and discussion welcome. :)

Here's a couple bad pics of the blade but they show the activity in the hamon pretty good:

John, This is all the right stuff in all the right places.:thumbup::thumbup:

you have great taste and an excellent eye, John. I'm loving the fittings and handle contouring, especially.

That knife and sheath is beautiful.

You have become one of my favorite makers, your work is so clean and consistent.
Always a pleasure to see your next creation.

Very nice work. I like a little more rounding on the guard near the handle, but that is just personal preference.

Nice knife, John! Very refined. That mesquite is very appealing!
I hope to run into you again at the Seattle show this year?

Very well done John. I rarely like an oval guard but the way you dress it up is just right. Your attention to detail and ability to execute are admirable. Thanks for sharing this one.

Very nice, I would like to see it in a 5-6 inch version, perfect for the the cowboy.

just spent some time checking out the sheath a little more carefully.
consistent tooling, nice even stitches which look hand done.
That is some fine work:thumbup:

Thanks for posting the comments guys.

Salem- yes, I'll be in Seattle again this year. Looking forward to it!
