Hey ya'll
Packing up the gear now, getting ready to go out and clean out the van. Cooler is all cleaned out. Gonna take 2 guns, one a 12 gauge pump (Remington 870) and also bringing a Stevens 12 side by side.
Just want to try out the side by side and see how I do, it's my first time using one to hunt. If I suck to bad with it, I will go back to what I know..:D

Anyways, who else is getting ready today, or looking forward to the start of hunting season. Getting out and trying out some new gear.
Supposed to be a hot opening day, with the high around 103f, so bring lots of water!

Our season opens tomorrow. I almost never hunt first season, I wait until our second season to hunt cut corn fields.

Not just yet as I hunt in the South Zone, but I have started preparing. Been seeing lots of birds so am optimistic about the season. Good luck to you.

The outfit I work for, used to have access to about 1900 acres of dove fields in Karnes County in the South Zone. We would take customers down for opening day. Kenedy, TX has a festival called the "Lonesome Dove Fest" and man on man was that fun. After morning hunt and afternoon hunt, we would grill dove breast, stuffed with jalapenos and string cheese, wrapped in bacon. Sit around the fire pit, swap lies, drink beer and have a super enjoyable time. Good luck on opening day.

I just spent some minutes watching some video of the Nooner ranch hunts, out in Hondo....man, now I am pumped up!
Gonna be fun just getting out with some buds and having a laugh or two.

I will be out in the field at 6:30. Taking my little girl for her first opening day. 300 acres that had milo until a month ago planted. Can't wait. Good luck everyone, hunting season has arrived!!!

Finally got all my gear together. Half if it is for deer hunting as I will spend the time between hunts cleaning blinds and the barn. Then I have 2 tripods to fix. I am hoping to keep miller lite in business for another day.

Once south zone starts I plan to keep a tequila company in business

Tomorrow night it will be a nice Sierra Nevada pale ale and meat on the grill! good luck.

NFB. I will explain later. Good news is we hung 3 gates And are smoking a few racks of ribs.

NFB was the report I got from my buddies here too. They didn't find it too funny when I told them I scared 6 out of the gutter on my bike ride home from work today :D. I'm thinking of throwing a singshot in my messanger bag for just such occassions!

Great day on what was formally known as the Llano River. We were flooded with White Wing this afternoon.. I wish I had gone to the skeet range last week. It took me about an hour to find my groove. My 17 year old had a great time since I finally let him use my Beretta 12 gauge over and under.

Did pretty good, we had about 8-10 shotguns going for the better part of the day. Evening was the best though.
I didn't fill my limit, but got close. I think I got about 12, some of my buds filled theirs. Great day, lots of laughs and my shoulder looks like someone took a damn hammer to it...
Can't wait to get out again.
Oh, I am gonna get me a semi now...my bud has a Benelli and I was wishing I had it by the end of the day. Sweet gun. I did much better with my pump, I didn't have any luck early on in the morning using my side by side, but it could have also just been me being rusty and all. I will take it again, and see how it goes.
