Texas knife laws and the Hideaway Knife

I have searched the old threads and numerous on line sources, but I cannot find anything solid to determine if a hideaway knife would violate Texas law by being classified as "knuckles" (“Knuckles” means any instrument that consists of finger rings or guards made of a hard substance and that is designed, made, or adapted for the purpose of inflicting serious bodily injury or death by striking a person with a fist enclosed in the knuckles). Beyond that I see nothing in the statues or laws that would prohibit this as a carry knife even if concealed. I just wanted to know if anyone had better information. Thanks for your time.

Like anything else yeah it could probably be made to fall under prohibited weapon knuckles, but that really isnt the intended purpose of the law.

Besides if you are Mil/LE we are gonna let you slide on a lot because we can make the nonapplicability statute apply under most things.

Coastalcop,

Thanks for the response. Being from Florida and stationed here in Texas I just want to make sure I am not violating the law but still have the ability to take care of myself and family.

Get your CCH (TExas) or CWP (Florida) and you will be fine bro. Have fun there near lovely Lackland. I spent some time stationed there at Macdill in Florida. In the mean time, keep your AFSF tin with you and there should be no worries

I have my Florida permit and will be getting my Texas permit in the future. There is a good possibility I will be staying here in Texas so I will get things lined up. I have my AFSF shield in my vehicle. Thanks

You may not need a new permit for Texas. See if they have reciprocity with Florida before you spend any money.

FL CHL is good in TX. No need to get a new one.

The TX CHL is a bit expensive, and requires going to a two-day class, etc. The only upside is that you don't have to have a NICS phonecall when you buy gun.

I live in TX, but have stuck with just renewing my FL permit instead of bothering to get a TX one.

Thanks guys. When I retire from the Air Force and decide to stay in Texas I will more than likely update then.

Sorry, I was out in the woods for a few days. I believe FL is a reciprocity state, thanks for pointing it out that he should contact TX DPS licensing for further clarification.

The Texas CHL applies only to handguns. It is not a concealed WEAPONS license. All knife laws apply to CHL holders.

RioShooter,

Thanks. I understand that the Texas license covers the conceal carry of a handgun and my Florida license covers conceal carry of all weapons in the State of Florida only and handgun in Texas. Good for others who might not know.
