Hello all,

I have been trying to find a creditable source for laws relating to knives in Texas. Does anyone know a good web sight that can give me the scoop? I went to find law.com , but Did not find the actual wording. I might have not been looking in the right area. I am interested in the maximum legal blade limit? I have asked many law enforcement officers- State, local, and county. I haven't recieved consistant answers. Seems no one knows the answer. Can someone help me . Where do I go for the legal definition ? thanks

tx laws on length are 5.5" max fixed or folder, no double edge daggers or dirks or any style gravity knives/autos, and no local laws override state laws i dont think, most jurisdictions if not all go by the penal code, also collectors are excluded, though not defined, and concealed/ or not doesnt matter

I think SIFU1A is mistaken about local ordinances not being more restrictive than state law. Witness the San Antonio ordinance against lock blades.

You can go to Texas Legislature Online and look up the state statutes.
Knives are in chapter 46 of the penal code.

There is now a bill in the state house of Representatives, HB840, which would remove switchblades from the list of illegal knives. If you live in Texas, please ask your elected representatives to support this bill.

Thank you.
