Anybody have any experience with the heat-treating done by Texas Knifemakers' Supply? I am about ready to need some 44C blades hardened and tempered, am debating whether to do it myself or send them out. Many thanks in advance for your report(s). PM me if you should fear libel, all messages will be kept confidential and much appreciated.

When I used to use them I thought they did a good job.Now in additiona for an extra charge they will also cryo them. I hope you meant you were sending them 440C blades?? Only thing if you were in a hurry they only did them one day a week and cryoed the next so you had to make sure they had them by Monday of each week. Will accept one or many.

I bought some 440C not knowing I couldn't do my own HT. I sent to Texas Knife Supply and had it heat treated with cyro. It was inexpensive and it came back needing very little work. Great people to do business with. I will do it again.

I have used TKS to heat treat several blades made from 440c before. I always thought they did a great job. As another guy said I always made sure they were there by Monday so that they could heat treat them and get them back to me so I could work on them by the weekend. From what I remember it was fairly inexpensive.

Texas Knifemakers does good work and H/Ted all my blades before I got my kiln.

Can't add much, but a HT oven has been on my "Next big buy" list for about a year. TKS does all my HT. I have only tested a few blades to destruction, but I can say that I've been more than happy with the results.

I have also been happy with their service. It's great when you only need a couple of knives treated.

The last blade I sent them was probably a challenge for them. It was a small CPM 154 neck knife. The thickness at the edge before treating was .010"; I also asked them to run it a little harder (60-61). It came back pristine; and while I don't have a Rockwell tester, it feels more like the CPM 154 that I had Bos run a little on the hard side than the knives (also CPM 154) I have at 58-59.

I have only sent blades in D2 and they did a good job on all of them. They have fair prices too. Postage usually costs me more than the heat treating.

Sorry I took so long,
I got my blade back a couple days ago, It turned out really good, It seems pretty hard!!
I would say their service is excellent!!!

I know this is an old thread, but more info can't hurt. I sent them a piece in 154CM, just about four months ago. It holds an edge very well, maybe better than the Bucks I have had -- 112 and Vantage Avid.
