Any of you seen one in the flesh or own one? What are your impressions? I like what I've seen online. Is is based on the 111 or some other model? Worth the extra $$$?

I've been thinking I'd like to buy a custom Buck but was looking at something in Stag until I saw this one. I've also had a jones for a ram handle knife for some time now so I'd be killing two birds w/one stone.

So sorry. I figured it was a better known model but I guess I ought to have posted a pic so here ya go:

I own several Bucks, have had them for years but with my interest in customs and traditional folders, I haven't had much interest in buying a new Buck. That said, I've lately had a hankering for a new lockback and, like I said earlier, stag and rams horn are at thee top of my list for handle materials. My only question is, "am I crazy for wanting to carry it?" lol

Thats not crazy! I have several limited editions etc. that I LOVE to use!

Just because they are custom or limited doesnt mean they aren't knives ;)

I used to enjoy just looking, but now I really enjoy using!

If you want a new lockback with stag or rams horn, I would buy it and use it! I really like that one!

A got an e-mail the other day where we were yakking about ram. The sender mentioned the "Texas Star" so I looked it up in the catalog. My impression was "WOW!!!".

I was just thinking before I logged on here about using a knice knife I just got in the mail. While I don't see it doing any heavy lifting, I do want to use it. It's not like I'm gonna sell my knives off...so what the heck.

Like Jim said, "use it". :)

It may very well be; I wouldn't know, because my BCCI Summer Newsletter (and catalog?) never arrived... :(

(I suppose my membership has lapsed again...I don't recall when I joined; the only way I can tell is by trying to logon to the BCCI site)

...But now that I see the price...

Heh...Kinda looks like Buck used a side of bacon for the scales... :D

the knife model is the 500 with rear bolster shaved off..
it is not the 111 .... or i would have one ..
rammy is sweet looking... may do some...
btw they may do a 500 for other states as a state line up..
take 50 years to finish that collection..

Well now,

Here is a fleshy scan of one that just came in the mail (note that copied pic version has no nail nick??? see post #4). As Dave said this is a discontinued Buck Duke 500 and is a LE for 08. The Duke was part of the 500 slim line series of knives...the smaller slim lines are still in production. This knife is about the same size as the Ranger 112's. But, has a drop point blade and is a bit nicer in your pocket. This is one sweet looking knife....you will like it.

However, you can always get a custom shop 110 in Ram horn. It will not be as dressed up as the Texas Star...but, that's your choice to make.

Thanks Guys. But the more I look at the photo link in post #4...which is the same photo as in the Buck 08 catalog....the more I like the line of the knife without the nail nick. It's not cool to be served beans and rice when you expected steak!!!! Don't get me wrong; I still love this knife. However, I thought it was going to have a blade like what was pictured...you know like the one on the BCCI fund raiser Duke.

I think Texas Slim needs to get one of these. It fits his handle very well...it's a Texas Star Duke 500 Slim Line for Texas Slim!!!! He will love it. Just make note it comes with a nail nick for easer opening;).

BCCI "Order Now!" pics are often of the "prototype" knife, not the finished production knife shipped by Buck. I've been disappointed several times, but it appears to be Buck's prerogative to change the smaller details to fit their tooling/manning situation. Caveat Emptor! ;)

yes i can see the proto has no nail nick and your does..
like trax says ,, this has happened before.. small detail
but not a cheep knife so perhaps pict should say proto...
or be updated...
humm its a wander that tin man sue dont have one yet!!!
