Ok Phil,
I really am interested in the scale material on that nice knife.

What version/collaboration of Schrade/Holder is that one pleeeeeeze?...... :D

I don't really know D, but he is the President of our Arizona Knife Collectors Association.....here is his page on the website, if you might be interested.....

Hasn't been updated in some time, but still some examples of his work, and influence.

If I'm mistaken, and that's not a Schrade/D' Holder... :o

Still, a beauty.

Thanks,

Bill

It's one of the earlier Schrade/D'Holders, Bill. Without the bolster/guard ground along with the blade from one hunk o steel. Still, it is a beauty. I think the handles are green maple. This photo does not capture the beauty much better than the other one (Don Luis should be our official photog here).

It's a simple extragance, to use an expensive knive the way a real knife should be used. Frankly, it's too big for the small game hunting I was doing, and I really judge it too large for whitetail deer. But I enjoyed having it at my side. The sheath is also beautiful, and you can see the nice zippered storage bag Schrade included with the knife (Like I'd ever keep this stashed away somewhere).

How I obtained it: There is one knife shop in town. The owner, a great guy, is really kinda out of touch with the real world (web) prices of the knives he carries. However, I have a good relatonship with him, and I am the first one he calls when he gets old Schrades in on trades. A few months ago, he had a WW2 vintage M3 trench knife... priced at ten bucks. I non-chalantly bought it, along with a few other oldies, at my ten percent discount. Do you know what a Camillus M3 (stamped on blade-- not guard) brings on Ebay? Especially if the seller will ship it to a collector/buyer in Belgium?

So I shared my profit and bought this S/D'H that I'd admired so often in the shop. I now get a 20% discount.

Glad you like it, Bill. Give my compliments to Mr. Holder, would ya?

Hey, thanks Phil, for the story......

I may ask him about the Schrades at our next show. It's in November....soooooo, maybe you and lrv will do another road trip and come out to visit us some year here in AZ, in Larry's car of course... :) I've offered to meet him on his way to Kingman to see his dad......but he's the quiet type, I guess.

If you ever do come out, you can wear your Margarita shirt and fit right in, and I'll bet your new bride would like Scottsdale a bunch.....Shopping, good salons, (or is that saloons), restaurants, shopping...... :D

Anywho....nice knife you have there. Maybe you can cut a steak to bloody it up....... ;)

Bill

Phil,

I've heard that in Nepal, the Gurkha Forgers get at least a drop of their own blood in every knife they make, I don't know if a maker or Collector in the USA has to do the same, I do know that many of my knives have gotten some of my blood, anyway you can always cut a piece of thread and claim that you used the knife once, it really is a beauty.

Bill,

Nice page from the AKCA but I keep getting a Java Script Error, it seems that my firewall is blocking some Java access.

Good pictures?, I wish I could Phil, your pics are better than mine, I'm just learning digital and don't have a good camera.

Luis

Hello Luis,
Sorry about the script errors.....it might be the website as well, as not much work has been done in awhile...

One of D's knives shows a basketweave sheath similar to Phil's Schrade version. I still like Phil's knife....very nice.

Lots of talented makers here in Arizona.
