I forgot to post these up earlier. This is going to require some deep recesses to pull off I think. I have no way of making them thinner at this point and they are thicker than stock G10 Emerson scales but I think I can get them on there ok.

I figure if they fit mine they'll fit you guys 14s also.

Anyway, these are rough cut out but once I get the final shape down I'll have to see what I'm up against for getting my 14 together with them and go from there.

Its going to be next week though. For now just this teaser for the two of ya wanting these.

i found a cheap and non permanent way to fix it. I know its a poor mans solution but a hole punched paper hole pushed into the hole that holds the stop pin stops the rattle just fine for me

The hole punch trick is pretty much what I did. On some of the lesser tolerance pins you may need to do as much as three layers on one side or a couple on both.

I've never liked loose fitting stop pins but a lot of higher dollar customs and productions have them. Personally its a recipe on some models for a lost bump stop. I've replaced countless stops on knives of all models and many customs over the years. Lots of Emersons, a few Kabars, and many others. Watch the pivot tension and make sure you never let yours get to the 'sloopy loose' state for side to side blade play. If you happen to own one that is a lesser tolerance model with a short 'rattle' in it you won't know when it falls out until you go to use it or notice your knife suddenly got quiet.

hey buddy no rush i was just wondering when they would be done?? I just got my 14 back from tom (had it reground) and wow its almost the perfect knife. :D:D

I hope they'll be out in the mail tomorrow.

It was tricky getting them to work being this thick and I have no way of flat grinding this stuff down to a uniform thickness.

The knife will be thicker in the pocket which I was unaware of when I got the material. Its the thinnest they had in it with texture though.

hey STR, i dunno if this is the right place to ask, but what would something like those carbon fiber scales run someone? btw, we need pics if you got them of the finished product. always enjoy looking at those knifes you have tweaked :D

I have a little of the carbon fiber left but to be perfectly honest with you I am glad its so expensive that most folks won't want to use it. I hate the stuff! It gums up belts worse than anything I've used in years and it stinks, requires clean up immediately because its so caustic and nasty. I'll be hard pressed to be talked into using it again after I get these three projects I've committed to out of here using it. I have always said I most often try anything once. In this case I jumped into several committments before doing it once and am now finding that I regret that.

I'd pass on using it again after what I do here in the near future.

Sorry.

But it looks good:o I cant wait to get em on the knife, if its ok i will post a few pics of them on the knife. Thanks so much! :D:D

Nope. Its not thick enough.

Sorry.

Steve, well for those guys like me that like playing with the nasty stuff (mostly cause I just have good dust collection and a really nice respirator. Where can I get that carbon fiber?

Without you I don’t think I would know how to find anything

Thanks

Brad

When they have it you can get it from Halpern Titanium.

Its nice when its done but I hate working it. I can tell already its not something I'll ever enjoy.

So will those paper punch holes stay snug in there, I would think they would break down eventually... what about locktite? or is that too permanent...
